Formulas typeset properly, on their own line or inside a sentence.

A maths block typesets a formula written in LaTeX, the format scientists and engineers already use. For a formula inside a sentence, like $E = mc^2$, select the text and choose the formula button.

## On its own line

The monthly payment on a loan of $P$ at a monthly rate $r$ over $n$ months:

$$
M = P \frac{r(1+r)^n}{(1+r)^n - 1}
$$

The sum of the first $n$ whole numbers:

$$
\sum_{k=1}^{n} k = \frac{n(n+1)}{2}
$$

<Tip>
Explain each symbol in the sentence before the formula. Readers who skip the maths still follow the page.
