# Steps

A numbered path through a task, one action per step.

Steps walk a reader through a task in order. Each step has a short title that says what to do, and room underneath for the detail.

<Steps>
<Step title="Create the site">
On the **Sites** page, choose **New site**, give it a name and pick its address.
</Step>
<Step title="Write the first page">
Open the editor, type a title, and add blocks with `/`. The page saves itself as you type.
</Step>
<Step title="Publish">
Choose **Publish** in the top bar and confirm. Readers see the new release straight away:

```
https://your-domain.example/docs/your-site
```
</Step>
<Step title="Share the address">
The address sits under the site's name on its Overview. Send it to your readers.
</Step>
</Steps>

## Writing good steps

- Start each title with a verb: "Create", "Write", "Publish".
- One action per step. If a step needs "and then", split it.
- Five to seven steps at most. A longer task reads better as several pages.
