Media moderation

Media moderation lets administrators scan uploaded images and videos for policy compliance.

Configure it from Admin > Settings > Compliance > Media moderation.

Setup

  1. Enable media moderation.
  2. Select Sightengine as the provider.
  3. Enter your Sightengine API user and API secret.
  4. Choose the signals, review threshold, and violation threshold.
  5. If scanning videos, enable video moderation and choose Automatic, Synchronous, or Asynchronous processing.

Asynchronous video checks require the site to be publicly reachable over HTTPS so provider callbacks can reach it. The scheduler also checks delayed callbacks every 15 minutes.

Starting a Scan

Go to AI Scans and start a new scan. The dialog shows an estimate before the scan starts.

  • Select sources such as posts, stories, reels, messages, or standalone attachments.
  • Select images, videos, or both.
  • Set maximum items and maximum provider operations.
  • Review the estimated files and remaining daily/monthly operation budgets.

Unchanged media reuses compatible previous results by default, which avoids extra paid provider operations. Force a rescan only when needed.

Reviewing Results

The moderation area has separate workflows:

  • User Reports are reports submitted by users.
  • AI Scans are automated scan runs.
  • Media Review contains automated results that need administrator attention.

Automated scan results do not create user reports. Administrators can dismiss a result, confirm a violation, delete only the affected media attachment, or delete the full parent content. Deleting parent content is the broader action and should be used carefully.

Review pages also show media previews, related content links, provider details, normalized scores, errors, and readable provider JSON where available.
